Taxonomy Laboratory

Vittor & Associates currently employs six full-time taxonomists with a total of 60 years experience, and four full-time support staff with a total of 65 years experience. We are proficient in the identification of benthic macroinfauna from the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. We have additional experience with samples from the Red Sea, Persian Gulf, and Russia.

Our Taxonomy Laboratory processes between 2,000 - 3,000 benthic samples per year. We have analyzed more than 60,000 samples in the past 30 years.

Several of our senior taxonomists are nationally recognized experts in the identification of marine crustaceans and polychaetes. Vittor & Associates has published the seven-volume polychaete guide, Taxonomic Guide to the Polychaetes of the Northern Gulf of Mexico, that is acknowledged worldwide.
